Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Scientific Essay from the year 2013 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Topic: Peace and Conflict Studies, Security, , course: American Civilization, language: English, abstract: Much ink has been spilt over the study of the causes and reasons behind the rise of the Arab people in what was called the 'Arab spring' or the 'Arab awakening' after decades of stagnancy and silence. All attempts have been overwhelmed and distorted by the concurrent conditions of the Arab world in relation to its social, political and cultural structure. Despite the fact that the Arab revolutions that swept important Arab countries by the beginning of 2011 from North Africa to the Middle East fall under such criteria, still the causes and roots of these uprisings at this very moment indicate some inherent potential drives that are the result of years of simmering. Even more strikingly, the underpinnings of the Arab revolutions can be traced also to a distrust of people in their governments and a deep understanding of the new world order triggered by the 9/11 events and the invasion of Iraq. This paper traces the impact of the 9/11 events on the Arab mindset ever since the Iraq war and how it resulted in the turmoil of the Arab revolutions.…

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Essay from the year 2013 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Region: Africa, , course: civilization, language: English, abstract: In the light of the military intervention to depose the first democratically elected president in Egypt, Muhammad Morsi on July 2, 2013, there had been immediate calls to avoid a downfall to civil war. The analogy of the military coup in Egypt and the Algerian scenario of 1992 has haunted all intellectual and political circles ever since. The fears of an escalation of violence against the army and its supporters from secularists and the Mubarak regime loyalists emerged (.).…

Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Academic Paper from the year 2022 in the subject Politics - Miscellaneous, grade: 19, Université 8 Mai 1945 (Faculty of Arts and Languages), course: Government and politics, language: English, abstract: Following the resignation of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika under pressure from the street, analyses of political change in Algeria have primarily focused on the domestic processes of transition and paid relatively less attention to the influence they might have on changes in the country¿s foreign policy. As the country moves towards a change of leadership, a new generation of politicians will emerge with the demise of the so-called 'Old Guard.' These developments have raised questions about whether these changes will affect the country¿s future positions on regional and international issues in general. The recent maneuvers of Algerian diplomacy enable strategic shifts to be observed and the scope of foreign policy change¿or continuity¿to be assessed. The main question, however, is how Algeriäs foreign policy will fair in the country¿s new political era. Should there be basic and serious changes in foreign policy orientation The present article is written with the aim of shedding light on the foreign policy of Algeria following the recent uprising and analyses the possible diplomatic directions that the change might bring in response to public demands.…

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Scientific Essay from the year 2017 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Region: Near East, Near Orient, , course: American Studies, language: English, abstract: The supercilious idea of the United States that, by toppling Saddam Hussein, can rapidly democratize Iraq and unleash a democratic tsunami in the Middle East, has metamorphosed into an apocalypse that swept the core nations of the region. Chaos and destruction became the 'manifest destiny' of these peoples and democracy became a dangerous fantasy. The United States' record of building democracy after invading other countries is mixed at best and the Bush administration's commitment to state-building efforts in Iraq is doubtful. The United States have failed at developing democracy in the Middle East - which has led to increased instability and anarchy - because U.S. foreign policy has misunderstood the formula for building democracy in the region. The United States is just the latest Western nation to fail in the Middle East. The repercussions of a miscalculated intervention in Iraq were likely to complicate the spread of democracy in the Middle East rather than to promote it. Instead of developing democratic governments in the region the US intervention paved the way for the emergence of more oppressive radical groups that hijacked the reins of power from the legitimate governments and anguished peoples' lives through acts of terror and bullying. The new paradox that Bush's neoconservative government created in Iraq and the Middle East has turned a lofty project of democratization into a disaster of destruction. While ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) has seized core leadership positions in Syria, Iraq and other places, it is putting in practice the larger tripartite plan of the disintegration of the Middle East. In the process of establishing the Islamic Caliphate, ISIL is sowing the seeds of its own destruction as the U.S. contemplates increased military action in the Middle East, specifically authorization of military force in Syria. However, if the US desires to preserve American preferential treatment in the region it should reconsider the policies that created so much anarchy.…

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Seminar paper from the year 2012 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Region: USA, grade: Assistant Professor, , course: American Civilization, language: English, abstract: The U.S.-Algerian relations have long been subject to fluctuation and uncertainty since Algeria's independence. However, recently after a cabal of neoconservatives was swarmed into the Bush Administration there had been an increasing interest in the country. This paper looks into the rationale of the American unexpected shift of interest towards Algeria in the dawn of the 21st century. It situates the place of this so long neglected country in the design of American neoconservative foreign policy agenda following the 09/11 attacks. The terrorist attacks on the United States and the rise of the neoconservative cabal, undoubtedly changed international relations in significant ways. Those events pushed the United States to alter its policies toward a number of regimes by building a broad 'coalition against terrorism'. Washington reached out to countries that until recently were considered hostile or at least not so friendly. In foreign policy, the neoconservatives do differ from other American politicians and pundits in their intense commitment to the projection of American military and economic power. The agenda of the neoconservatives was based on stretching American influence to protect its vital economic interests by establishing friendly relations with countries that correspond to America's perspectives.Although it never constituted a priority for the United States in the past, in recent years Algeria has increasingly become a region of great interest to policymakers in Washington. However, an outstanding interest in the country came with the rise of neoconservatives to power in the Bush Administration. This new significance attached to the country derives from a number of considerations that fall into two broad sets: political and economic energy interests, and military, strategic and security interests. The first are linked to America's energy needs from oil and gas; and interest in a potentially important market for U.S. businesses, especially since competition has heightened with China in Africa. The second motives are relatively connected to Washington's reshuffle of strategic and security policies. These increased the need for new ways of managing issues related to security, terrorism and democratization.…

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Seminar paper from the year 2013 in the subject Politics - Region: Africa, grade: A, Université 8 Mai 1945 (Université 8 Mai 1945, Guelma), course: American civilization, language: English, abstract: The twenty first century announced more promising for the black continent as the US turned massively and determinedly to Africa. Despite previous attempts by former administrations, it was the Bush administration which showed more interest in an economically and politically distressed area for so long. In the light of the international competition over the continent's resources, the United States possesses clear and compelling national interests in Africa. There are vital security, economic, and humanitarian interests, including reliable long-term access to energy, shared largely by the African people and the international community. Yet, despite the rhetoric, did the Bush Administration really work to bring about a fairer and more just Africa One of the central questions which need to be asked is to what extent did President Bush's policy to help the African nations solidify the overall US policy Or was his project implementation influenced largely by narrow American realpolitik perspectives thus missing the opportunity to lay the foundation for a well established Wilsonian idealism Although George W. Bush's administration claimed to have made major new contributions to public health, promoting development, fostering democracy and peace in Sub-Saharan Africa : aid has increased in several areas and a major AIDS initiative launched, many scholars argued that foreign aid is losing its focus on development as political priorities come to the fore. Increasingly military approaches to fighting the 'Global War on Terror' in Africa and securing energy imports carries serious risks for the region. This paper will first examine the enunciated objectives and rational for the Bush's policy project. Then, this will be followed by an assessment of the effect of these measures on the development of the continent and to which extent the rhetoric matches with reality.…

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Master's Thesis from the year 2010 in the subject American Studies - Miscellaneous, , course: American civilization, language: English, abstract: This thesis deals with the reasons behind the Blacks' shift of commitment from the Republican to the Democratic Party during the New Deal period and its legacy. This recurrent phenomenon comes to the fore with every American presidential election since the first election of Roosevelt in 1932. By the coming of the New Deal they shifted their traditional electoral support to the Democratic Party. In addition, this research probes the motives behind this allegiance by examining Blacks' political, social and economic situation and its effect on the political arena. The electoral powerlessness of Blacks in the 1896-1930 period was as much the product of party affiliation as it was the result of disfranchisement. A concrete reconsideration of this process began to happen in the 1930s, when the Roosevelt administration and the New Deal made circumstances favorable. The Black shift of allegiance is interpreted in different ways: First, in relation to Black protest movements and maturation of political consciousness by the beginning of the 20th century up until the New Deal. Second, in relation to Black labor struggle and interracial issues. Third, through the achievements of Roosevelt's relief policies and the inclusion of Black intellectuals as members within the federal government. The Blacks' outpouring support for Roosevelt in 1936 cannot be explained solely by Roosevelt's initiatives on civil rights over the first New Deal. The strategic importance of Black voters in the North was converted into more federal patronage and awareness. The insistence on economic recovery combined with a sense of inclusion, was the centerpiece of the Democratic appeal to Blacks in the 1936 elections. Finally, the study concludes with an assessment of the shift and its legacy. The electoral strength of this minority increased dramatically between 1940 and 1960 making of Blacks an important constituency for the Democratic Party and changing the scene of American politics. Indeed, the black vote was indispensable to Democratic success signifying a substantial Black sustaining for a Democratic presidential ticket from 1936 to 1960 and eventually forming a decisive majority from 1964 to the present.…
