Top margin of front wrapper inscribed by the author to paleontologist Herrn Hofrath Dr. E[dmund]. von Mojsisovics; this volume had another prominent owner as well: mammalogist G[lover]. M[orrill]. Allen, who pencilled his signature in top left corner of the front wrapper. This volume was deaccessioned from a Harvard University library (originally the gift of Dr. Allen); it is disbound, with the binding's sewing having come undone; consequently all of its signatures (gatherings of leaves) are loose; apparently that has been the case for some time, as the library made for it a quarter maroon cloth enclosure, in which it still resides (and which will of course be included with the volume); top fore-edge corner of volume has small crease; top corner of p. [5] has margin chip; the fore-edge margins of a few plates have chips; the wrappers are chipped and have soil; the fore edge of the back wrapper is badly chipped; back wrapper has much soil; interior is clean. 95 p., with in-text illustrations and 10 leaves of plates, most of which are fold outs, some quite large; all pages and plates are present and accounted for.
