Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. First Edition, Second Impression. The 1925 second impression of ?We Twa,? published by W. Collins Sons & Co. in two illustrated volumes. Written by Lord and Lady Aberdeen, the memoir recounts their marriage, travels, political life, and public service in Scotland,… Ireland, and Canada, offering a warm firsthand portrait of Victorian and Edwardian society. The first volume is signed and inscribed by both the Lord and Lady Aberdeen on the half-title page as follows:?To Anna Irvine in remembrance of the House of Cromar and with affectionate best wishes from, Ishbel Aberdeen & Temair and [John] Aberdeen & Temair, December 1925.?Bearing an inscription for Anna Irvine of the House of Cromar, the Aberdeens' later residence in Aberdeenshire, this set has an intriguing association with the couple's household or immediate circle. Both volumes in original gray cloth boards with leather spine title labels, dust jackets are protect in removable mylar, jackets with edgewear and chipping along primarily along the spine edges, in Very Good condition. siged by author or artist.

Aggiungi al carrellothick8vo. 22cm, first edition, third impression, in 2 volumes, x,358 & vii,353pp., with 57 plate illustrations (inc 2 frontis portraits), volume indexes, original grey cloth, gilt spine titles on leather labels, vol. 1 label peeled with text loss, otherwise a fine set, very scarce. (Cdn). Volume One consists of both Lord and Lad…y Aberdeen's autobiographies of their early years; Lord Aberdeen was Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland in 1886 and served as Governor-General of Canada from September 1893 to November 1898. A substantial part of Volume Two deals with his position. His task was complicated by political difficulties - the sudden death of the Prime Minister, Sir John Thompson in 1894; the break-up of the Bowell Government in the spring of 1896; and the defeat of the Tupper Government later that year. During his stay in Ottawa, Lord and Lady took an active role in social activism. Lady Aberdeen was instrumental in founding the National Council of Women (she was the first president) and the Victorian Order of Nurses. Lord Aberdeen was again appointed Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland from 1905 to 1915. Very interesting, readable reminiscences by both authors.
