This book is quite full of the "sociology" of the 60s and 70s regarding Africa, and is in fact unreadable, in my view. Judging from the index, the focus is on Jamaica, Musical Instruments, Dancing, and oddly enough, a single entry for Albany N. Y and one for "Hot Bean Well Buttered." What is very useful for researchers is the very useful section of letters from Antigua and a long Appendix and Biographical details of some of the sources, a woman named Janet Shaw who traveled to Antigua with her brother in 1790 and kept a journal, which was only published in 1921, That journal: is available now online.…
