The editors of the newspaper Le Nain Jaune (1814-1815) imagined ridiculing the men in power and the supporters of the clergy by awarding them the Order of the Extinguisher, denouncing the obscurantism and blindness of royalist circles. The scene unfolds in an intimate boudoir setting, where a well-dressed gentleman eagerly engages with a partially undressed woman seated on a couch. Her expression suggests playful resistance. A second woman peeks through a partially open door in the background, adding to the intrigue of the composition. The refined interior, complete with delicate wallpaper, a side table with scattered objects, and a carefully placed painting on the wall, enhances the sense of private domesticity.
