VOl 3: viii, 576 pp. Vol. 4:viii, 576 pp. Vol. 5: index, references to the plates, 44 fold-out and double-page plates, catalogue of instruments and books published by W. Jones. Full contemporary burled calf with gilt rules, calf spine labels. and gilt spine decorations. Condition is VERY GOOD ; vols 1, 2 and 5 have cracked front hinges that are holding, vols 3 and 4 are tender. Spines have loss of most labels except vol. 3 which has both. Chips to spine heads of Vols. 1 and 5. Covers clean and bright. All endpapers present. Some mild foxing to text and a few of the plates. The plates generally have some print shadowing but are overall very clean and vivid, with some creases just to the edges of the outsides, no tears or loss, all folds undamaged. There are 44 plates (not including the frontis), not the 43 plates usually noted. Inside the cover of Vol. 1 was an old hand-written bill of sale from a Boston auctioneer, probably c. 1860, which is included. Sci. RGR.
