Hard Back. Condizione: Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Fine. Steele-Perkins, Chris - Photography (illustratore). 127 Pages. Original French Edition published by Marval, Paris in 2000. This the Westzone First Printing of the 2001 English Edition. Black hard boards with white titles on spine. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper it is a hardback book with a pictorial dust jacket that was removed from shrink wrap and posted on line. Never opened. This is a documentary book of black and white photographs most in full page. All of the photographs are reproduced in miniature and appended at the end with captions. This book is introduced by the French essayist and traveller André Velter and includes essays and verses by the Afghani poet Sayd Bahodine Majrouh, who was assassinated in Pakistan in 1988. Illustrated by 76 duotone photographs. Chris Steele-Perkins visited Afghanistan numerous times over a five year period. Throughout those years, the country was devastated by a succession of wars, as it still is today. Steele-Perkins is hopeful and as a result, the photographs are unforgettable rather than sensationalistic. He seeks to capture the continuing cycles of everyday life despite the fact of war, resulting in a collection of images of wonder and violence, terror and joy. Steele-Perkins is one of the world's foremost photojournalists.

Aggiungi al carrelloCondizione: Very Good. Text illustrations by Cecil Beaton. (illustratore). [1931]. Privately published by The Dorchester Hotel. [London]. [1931]. Hardback, quarto; boards bound in a zig-zag patterned cloth, pictorial title-label pasted to front board, matching zig-zag endpapers. 49 pages. Text illustrations by Beaton, including 2 full-page, 4 half-page and 1 decorative initial; 4 double-page hors texte colour plates and 3 full-page advertisements. English. 260x210mm. 0.5kg. Very good; light shelf wear, occasional light surface mark to cloth, fading to spine; stitching beginning to pull in a couple of places as is common with this book, occasional light spotting. A Young Man Comes to London is a charming promotional book privately published by The Dorchester Hotel in London to celebrate its opening in 1931. It contains a short story by Michael Arlen, illustrated with line drawings by Cecil Beaton. Arlen's story is a satirical romance involving two Bright Young Things on the make. Arlen himself was a figure of London society and his story, complemented by Beaton's illustrations, perfectly captures the mix of flightiness and bravado of the young 1920s set. The second-half of the book is devoted to the building and interiors of the new Dorchester. The Hotel's developers Sir Francis Towle and Sir Malcolm McAlpine provide 'A Brief History of a New Enterprise' and 'Some Facts and Figures about the Dorchester' respectively. Professor C.H. Reilly offers an architect's perspective. The colour plates, which reproduce drawings of the hotel's interior, are a different selection compared to other copies we have seen.
