A 1…918 graduate of the Naval Academy, Clark retired from the Navy in 1953. The book has a signed dedication dated 26 May 1968 from the author to Bill Schwendler. Schewendler was one of the founders, chief engineer, executive vice-president and eventual Chairman of the Board of the Grumman Corporation. Schwendler led the enginnering team that designed designed and built the F4F Wildcat, the F6F Hellcat and the TBF Avenger all US Navy carrier aircraft used in the Pacific War. Very good copy of the first edition in a good+ dust jacket. The dust jacket has minor edge wear and a slightly sun darkened spine. 333 pages. Inscribed by Author(s).

Clark and his crew sailed over 14,000 miles to meet the American fleet in Cuban waters, which emphasized the need for the Panama Canal to make the trip from coast to coast more efficient. Admiral Clark, a native of Oklahoma, was a member of the Cherokee tribe. He was the first Native American to graduate from the United States Naval Academy, in 1917. He was a decorated commander of aircraft carriers during World War II. During the Korean War, he commanded the Fast Carrier Task Force (TF 77), and later, as Vice Admiral, the entire 7th Fleet.
