The New York Diaries, 19502011 is Jonas Mekas's key literary work. The first volume of this magnum opus, covering the period from 1950-69, appears posthumously one year after his death. It stands on an equal footing with his cinematic oeuvre, which he initially developed together with his brother Adolfas after their arrival in New York. In 1954, the two brothers founded Film Culture magazine, and in 1958 Jonas began writing a weekly column for The Village Voice. It was in this period that his writing, films, and unflagging commitment to art began to establish him as a pioneer of American avant-garde cinema and the barometer of the New York art scene.

Nombreuses illustrations. Exhibition catalog consists of foreword written by Lithuanian famous artist Adolfas Vale ka overviewing Lithuanian art features and analyzing history and domestic politics, which largely influenced art, list of presented works and 14 full-page artwork reproductions printed on coated fine paper. Exhibition was opened on March 20th, 1937 in Riga City Museum of Art (at present time Latvian National Museum of Art) and organized by Lithuanian state. Organizing such a large exhibition was the first experience, so it became a significant event for Lithuanian culture. On display were 217 artworks of 55 artists in the fields of painting, graphics and sculpture. The exhibition was devoted mostly to the Modernist art, but also were shown creations of artists, who belonged to older Realist generation. Older generation of artists mostly educated abroad, so foreign art models and art movements of the end of 19th century were more important for them. They formed organization named Lihtuanian Art Society. Main representatives of older generation, who participated in exhibition were: J. Vieno inskis, A. Varnas, P. Kalpokas, J. ileika, A. muidzinavicius, V. Did iokas, J. Mackevicius and others. Younger generation artists graduated from the Lithuanian Art School. After graduating some of them trained and completed education abroad, especially in Paris. They organized in 1928 Lithuanian Society of Independent Artists with more than 70 members, which aim was not only to unite Lithuanian young artists, but also to bring together artists of neighbor nations for cooperation. Here are some younger generation representatives, whose works were presented: L. Kazokas, P. Kaufmanas, R. Kalpokas, Ad. Smetona, sculptor P. Aleksandravicius, V. Vizgirda, A. Sumuolis, A. Galdikas, J. Steponavicius, M. Bulaka, V. K. Jonynas, T. Kulauskas, V. Rataiskis and others.

Promotional broadside, designed to resemble an oversized postcard, for the Los Angeles premiere of Adolfas Mekas' feature film debut, "Hallelujah the Hills," along with the debut of Kenneth Anger's short film, "Scorpio Rising." Mekas was the brother of Jonas Mekas, a film critic, filmmaker, and essentially father figure of the avant-garde New American Cinema of the 1960s, which in turn spawned the underground film movement that continued into the 1970s. "Hallelujah the Hills," a surreal comedy satirizing politics, American pop culture, religion, and sexual mores, was the first feature film in that movement. 11.5 x 9.25 inches, black and white type and illustrations on brown card stock, printed on recto only.
