Disbound from a collection of pamphlets owned by French homeopath Dr. Charles Ravel (1822-1887). Antoine-Athanase Royer-Collard (1768-1825) was the French doctor who served as head physician at the Charenton mental asylum, where one of his patients was the Marquis de Sade, who spent the last 11 years of his life there. Royer-Collard was also a professor of forensic medicine at the University of Paris, where in 1819 he became the first chair of "médecine mentale." He was elected to the Académie Royale de Médecine in 1820. The author, Adrien Jacques de Lens (1786-1846), was a botanist and doctor; he served as Inspecteur Général des Études pour l'Enseignement Supérieur de la Médecine from 1824 to 1830.
