Egli; Barth 6413; digitalis. in BVB/BSB u. e-rara) - INHALT, in zwei Abteilungen : I. in 12 Kapitel unterteilt, 'Die Zerwürfnisse und Staatsumwälzung' jew. in den Kantonen TG, ZH, AG, SO, LU, SG, FR, VD, SH, BE, SZ, NE, mit der abschliessenden Feststellung: "Hiermit wären wir am Ende der Schilderung [.] den Kanton Basel ausgenommen. Auch in einzelnen anderen Kantonen wie in Glarus, Zug, Appenzell, Wallis und Genf erhoben sich im Jahr 1830 und 31 viele Stimmen für Verbesserung der Verfassungen. Aber die Freunde des lieben Alten wußten dieselben theils zu betäuben, theils sonst wirkungslos zu machen; und somit blieb der frühere Zustand daselbst unverändert." (p. 142) / II. (-) im Kanton Basel (pp. 143-296) - In erzählerischer Weise, ohne Quellenangaben u. gar ohne Inhaltsverzeichnis publiziertes Zeitdokument zur frühen Regeneration mit ihren Auseinandersetzungen um die Revision der kantonalen Verfassungen: "Die Epoche war geprägt von umfassenden liberalen Reformen und wirtschaftlicher Modernisierung mit einer zunehmend von konfessionellen Gegensätzen überlagerten Polarisierung zwischen Liberalen und Radikalen auf der einen sowie Konservativen auf der anderen Seite, die das politische Leben der Schweiz bis ins 20. Jahrhundert prägte" (HLS) - "Der Verfasser nachfolgender Blätter hat es gewagt, in denselben eine Schilderung der neuern Zerwürfnisse und Staatsumwälzungen der Schweiz zu geben. [.] Bei der nachfolgenden Erzählung fand es der Verfasser für zweckmäßig, auf die Geschichte der früheren Jahre einige Blicke zu werfen, namentlich auf das Jahr 1814, um zu zeigen: warum sich ein großer Theil der Schweizer im Jahr 1830 erhoben, und eine neue Ordnung der Dinge in politischer Hinsicht ins Dasein gerufen habe." (p. IV) - Ansatzpunkt für Aeblis Darstellung sind die Ereignisse im Kanton Basel bei den liberalen Umwälzungen in den 1830er Jahren. "Das Regenerationsstreben trug vorwiegend politischen Charakter. Es ging um politische Grundsätze, um die Staatsform, für die man mit Mitteln der Publizistik, der Klubs, der Massenaufmärsche kämpfte. Meistens mündete diese Bewegung in die politische Revolution. [.] In Basel lief die Erneuerungsbewegung in blutigen Bürgerkrieg und Kantonsspaltung aus. Von Anfang an war hier der Gegensatz wohl unüberbrückbarer als anderswo. [.] Schon die auffallend rasche Bereitschaft in beiden Lagern zum Schiessen deutet auf angestauten Hass. [.] Eine erste Waffenerhebung des Landvolkes im Januar 1831 wurde durch obrigkeitliche Truppen unterdrückt". (E. Bonjour, Gesch. d. Schweiz im 19. u. 20. Jh. Jh., 1937, p. 96 u. 106 f.). - "Es brach ein eigentlicher Bürgerkrieg aus, der beide Seiten Tote und Verwundete kostete. [.] Die Abspaltung der Landschaft von der Stadt zeichnete sich ab. [.] Damit hatten die Auseinandersetzungen aber keineswegs ein Ende. [.] Bei einem Versuch [der Stadt, angestammte Rechte] wahrzunehmen, kam es am 3. August 1833 bei Gelterkinden und bei Pratteln zu bewaffneten Auseinandersetzungen, die 67 Menschen das Leben kosteten, davon allein 63 auf baselstädtischer Seite. Darauf schlossen sich die Gemeinden.
