Illustrated with upwards of one hundred and eighty engravings. A collection of the fables attributed to Aesop, a Greek fabulist and storyteller noted for his tales characterized by anthropomorphic animal characters. Many of the tales credited to him were gathered across the centuries and in many languages in a storytelling tradition that continues to this day. This collection includes titles such as: The Cock and the Jewel, The Frogs Desiring a King, and The Kite and the Pigeons, amongst others. With a preface by Samuel Croxall, an Anglican churchman, writer and translator, particularly noted for his edition of Aesop's Fables. Bound in full cloth with modern endpapers laid in.
