Large Quarto. 8pp. Original photographically illustrated stapled wraps with white and brown lettering. Aga-Film-Production 1935, Tel Aviv, Palestine. Directed by B. Agadati. Illustrated with exquisite photomontages in photogravure throughout, th…e synopsis of the film is disbursed in the program in English, Hebrew and German. "It happened fifty years ago. A group of Jewish students, the gates of higher learning slammed in their faces, decided to burn their bridges behind them and return to the land of their fathers, there to exchange their books and laboratories for the shovel and the plow." (AGA-Film). Celebrating the fifty years of Jewish growth and cultivating Canaan, this Zionist propaganda film tells the story of this land from the foundation of the first Jewish colonies in 1882, through W.W.I., the Balfour Declaration, the establishment of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and other events. Director Baruch Agadati (18951976) worked as a producer, dancer, choreographer and painter. He founded the AGA Film Company with his brother Yitzhak, made the first Hebrew language newsreels and with "This is the Land" he created the first full-length Hebrew film with sound. Visuals in the movie as well as the program at hand are inspired by the Soviet avant-garde.
