Neuware - En este libro se narra la vida y la obra de un español, Francisco de Paula Marín, nacido en Jerez en 1774 y muerto en Honolulu, entonces Haranunu, en la isla hawaiana de Oahu, en 1837. Olvidado en su patria natural pero nunca en la de adopción, es hora de rescatar su memoria en los lugares que lo vieron nacer y emigrar bien joven en busca de mejores destinos. Fue marino, militar, comerciante, industrial, médico, intérprete oficial de los reyes hawaianos, introductor de técnicas de todo tipo, agricultor y ganadero. Marín mantuvo correspondencia y relaciones comerciales con españoles residentes en California y México, financió empresas en otras islas de la Polinesia y sus mercancías llegaron hasta las costas chinas. Y fue hombre de la mayor confianza de tres reyes hawaianos, sobretodo del más grande de todos ellos, Kamehameha I, llamado el Napoleón del Pacífico, que unificó las Islas Hawaii, llamadas entonces Islas Sándwich, en 1795 y las colocó en el umbral de la cultura occidental. Nunca olvidó ni su nación ni su religión, aunque ambas lo olvidaron a él. Escribió un Diario que es una fuente imprescindible para la historia de Hawai, a pesar de haber llegado tan solo en forma de resumen traducido al inglés a mediados del siglo XIX. Su vida y su obra han despertado en Hawai un renovado interés en tiempos recientes.…
