He was born into a wealthy family; his… maternal grandfather was the publishing magnate and philanthropist Egerton Smith. He was a lieutenant in the Second West India Regiment and afterwards a captain in the Royal Engineers Militia. He was also an expert on bookplates and a keen collector. He was born in London. Books containing references to Austin Dobson". 8vo. xxiii, 302pp + [i] publisher's advertisement. Blue cloth with gilt lettering and decoration to the spine and upper board. With a frontispiece illustration, a title page decoration, and seventeen illustrations in the text, all by Fred Pegram. Some discolouration to the cloth at the backstrip, the tip of one corner bumped, and a little rubbing and wear to the backstrip ends, the rear outer hinge, and several other extremities. A little sporadic, mostly marginal fox spotting. A good sound copy of this sequel to the husband-and-wife duo's 1900 novel 'The Bath Comedy', considerably enhanced by these attributes.
