Albert Wilfred Barbelle (1887-1957) was among the most celebrated illustrators of Tin Pan Alley sheet music during the 1910s-1930s. His sophisticated depictions of fashionable women, theatrical romance, and Art Deco-influenced design became synonymous with Jazz Age popular culture, and his signed covers remain highly sought after by collectors today. Lyricist Roy Turk (1892-1934) wrote numerous standards of the era, while Ted Snyder (1881-1965) was one of Tin Pan Alley's major publishers and composers. Fred E. Ahlert (1892-1953) later became known for standards including Mean to Me and I Don't Know Why (I Just Do). Waterson, Berlin & Snyder Co. was one of the dominant New York music publishers of the 1910s and 1920s, closely associated with Irving Berlin and the commercialization of American popular song during the phonograph and radio boom years. Their publications are especially collectible when paired with notable cover artists such as Barbelle.
