The bed surface o…f the stilling basin must be smooth, or the crests of the corrugations should be at the level of the upstream bed that carries the supercritical flow; this prevents cavitation in the basin. If jumps were formed on corrugated beds, significant reductions occur in the tailwater depth and length of the jumps. The Reynolds shear stresses are produced in the plane of the crests of the corrugations that reduce the velocity field above the corrugations.
