Die Autorin stellt eine Taxonomie der Zeiterlebnisse vor, die zwei Forschungsrichtungen verbindet: einerseits die Frage nach der Zeitwahrnehmung bzw. dem Zeiterleben, wobei die Zeit keine eindimensionale Entität darstellt, sondern mehrere qualitativ unterschiedliche Komponenten beinhaltet, die als elementare Zeiterfahrungen bezeichnet werden kà nnen; andererseits die Erforschung der Mechanismen, d.h. die Frage, wie zeitliche Information im Gehirn verarbeitet wird. So werden nicht nur die Zeiterlebnisse dargestellt, sondern auch die neuronalen Mechanismen postuliert, die diesen Zeiterlebnissen zugrunde liegen. Diese Mechanismen werden aber nicht nur als Grundlage für das Erleben bzw. die Wahrnehmung von Zeit postuliert, sondern auch als generelle Grundlage psychischer Prozesse, nämlich die der Wahrnehmung, Informationsverarbeitung, Bewertung und Handlung. Auf dieser theoretischen Grundlage aufbauend wird eine Klassifikation psychischer Funktionen dargestellt, welche als Grundlage dient, eine theoriegeleitete Auswahl von neuropsychologischen Messinstrumenten zur Ãberprüfung der Wirkung eines Antiepileptikums vorzunehmen. Die erste Fragestellung dieser Arbeit betrifft die Auswirkung dieser Substanz auf die psychische Funktionsfähigkeit von gesunden männlichen Probanden. Zweitens untersucht die Autorin, inwieweit aufgrund der gewonnenen Daten die Zuordnung der Messinstrumente zu den in der Theorie postulierten psychischen Funktionen widergespiegelt wird.
