Dos carré, insolé, avec légères traces de pliures et petits frottis en haut et en bas. Mors et bords des plats un peu insolés. Intérieur frais, malgré de légères rousseurs. Préface par Ad van Bever. Drame en un acte, dédié à Pierre Louys, écrit par Oscar Wilde, directement en français, en 1891, durant un séjour à Paris et destiné à être créé pour le rôle titre, par Sarah Bernhardt. Cette dernière n'interprétera le rôle qu'en 1896. Censurée, la pièce paraît en France en 1893, un an avant l'édition anglaise. Cette édition est accompagnée d'une couverture et de 9 superbes illustrations en couleurs, hors texte, par Hans-Henning von Voigt sous le pseudonyme d Alastair. Bibliographie exhaustive du texte en fin d'ouvrage. Tirage sur bel alfa d'édition. Assez bel état général. Edition originale illustrée, achevée d'imprimer le 30 décembre 1924.

This is the scarce 1st trade edition after the 1922 rare limited edition with the Alastair colored plates in the nouveau manner quite bizarre, the only known copy that has the period Parisian binding by Cres and copy that has preserved both covers in the binding, All plates fresh and startling. 3/4 red gilt morocco with Parisian endsheets and marbled boards, top edge gilt, also contains the original back strip with the original price fo 10 Frances or about 2.50 in dollars. Also, This edition contains a bibliography of the various editions of Salome since its first appearance in Paris on 1893. in French, so many pretty editions then and hence, this being one of the prettiest.
