Early printing. A collection of poems and shorter works by this prolific - and popular - author. Her books were rooted in Biblical and Christian ideas: she saw her writing as similar to leading Sunday School classes but with a much larger audience. Between 1865-1920 she published over 100 books, in addition to editing the juvenile periodical 'Pansy' from 1873 to 1896. In 1900 it was estimated that her sales were 100,000 copies annually - Despite those numbers, at this time, there are no copies of this title available online - perhaps explained by the fragility of the binding. Many full page illustrations, some quite charming. Double illustrated half title page listing this as a title in "Pansy's New Library for Boys and Girls." Unpaginated. Gift inscription on first page from 'her Sunday School teacher, Xmas 1887." Poor condition in embossed tan cloth, reading copy only (signatures are very loose, barely hanging onto the binding, penciled scribbling on blank pages at end of book, wear to cloth, including tears at ends of spine, mottling to back cover and more).…
