Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the connection between the phenomena of galvanism, the electrical currents produced by living tissue, and electricity in general. The author's research builds upon the work of Galvani and others, demonstrating how these electrical currents impact both the physiology… of living creatures and their interactions with the world around them. Through a series of experiments, including those using a newly invented "galvanic pile," the author shows how these currents can influence muscle contraction and nerve activity, and even have therapeutic applications. This book deepens our understanding of the fundamental role electricity plays in the natural world, establishing galvanism as a vital field of study in the emerging realm of bioelectricity. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book explores galvanism, the phenomenon of electrical stimulation in the human body, as discovered by Luigi Galvani in the 18th century. The author, a scientist, provides a detailed account of the experiments conducted by Galvani and others, which led to the discovery of the galv…anic current and its effects on living organisms. The book discusses the controversy surrounding Galvani's findings and the subsequent work of Alessandro Volta, who developed the first electric battery. The author also examines the practical applications of galvanism in medicine, including its use as a therapeutic tool to treat various ailments. The book concludes with a discussion of the ongoing scientific research on galvanism and its potential implications for future medical advancements. This book is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of science, the development of electricity, and the therapeutic applications of galvanism in medicine. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book approaches the emerging science of galvanism, a recently discovered branch of electricity, with an innovative series of experiments that establish a framework for understanding the connections between galvanism and vital functions. The author investigates the communication o…f the electric current through vast distances of water and land, establishing the speed and efficiency with which galvanism travels through various compositions. These foundational discoveries pave the way for exploring the relationship between galvanism and organic matter, specifically in muscles and nerves. Novel experiments involving the author's unique pile design reveal galvanism's role in muscular contractions, suggesting the possibility that the human body may be likened to a self-contained battery. The work concludes with the groundbreaking application of galvanism to understand the workings of organs in living creatures, opening new avenues for comprehending the complex processes of life itself. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

V., stockfleckig in den Anfangsbereichen, Bd. 1: letzte Seite m. Eckabriss (ohne Textverlust), leichte Gbrsp. - ". It was an influential book on galvanism, that presented for the first time a series of experiments in which the principles of Volta and Galvani were used together. The fine series of plates illustrated the experiments which involved bodies and heads of animals and humans. For the first time a description appears here of the magnetization of steel needles through connection to a voltaic circuit." (Zitat) - Giovanni Aldini was a nephew of Luigi Galvani, whose treatise on muscular electricity he edited with notes in 1791. His scientific work was chiefly concerned with galvanism and its medical applications, with the construction and illumination of lighthouses, and with experiments for preserving human life and material objects from destruction by fire.

Condizione: Good. First edition. Paris: Imprimerie de Fournier Fils, An XII, 1804. First edition. First edition of this seminal scientific treatise by Jean Aldini (1762-1834), the nephew of Luigi Galvani and one of the foremost figures in the early study of bioelectricity. In Essai Théorique et Expérimental sur le Galvanisme, Al…dini expands upon his uncle's discovery of animal electricity, presenting a rigorous series of experiments conducted before the French Institute and in the anatomical theaters of London. His work documents the galvanic stimulation of animal and human muscles — including the now-famous reanimation experiments on executed criminals — and lays the groundwork for electrotherapy and modern electrophysiology. The two volumes are richly illustrated with engraved folding plates depicting galvanic apparatus, laboratory instruments, and experimental setups. The text systematically examines the physical theory of galvanism, its relationship to electricity and magnetism, and its medical and physiological implications. Aldini's narrative blends detailed experimental reporting with philosophical analysis, making it a landmark in both the history of neuroscience and the development of bioelectric science. His demonstrations would later inspire both scientific progress and literary imagination, influencing works such as Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. Condition & Binding: Two octavo volumes. Bound in contemporary full tree calf, spines richly gilt with ornamental urn and lattice tooling, red and green morocco title and volume labels ("ESSAI SUR LE GALVANISME," "I / 2"). Boards show rubbing, surface wear, and small losses, primarily at corners and edges; joints lightly cracked but sound. Bindings remain tight and complete, with crisp, clean pages showing only mild toning and scattered spotting typical of early 19th-century paper. Plates are well-preserved and sharply struck with strong impressions. Overall good.
