Former library copy (Michigan State Normal College, no. 19794) with bookplate on front pastedown and call number notation on free endpaper. Spine leather heavily worn with losses, cracking, and peeling; corners bumped with board showing through; cloth lightly rubbed and soiled. Hinges cracked but holding. Internally clean; plates bright and complete with vivid color printing throughout. Good to Very Good. This monumental atlas was the first volume actually published in Bartholomew's ambitious planned five-volume Physical Atlas series, of which only this meteorology volume and Volume V (Zoogeography) were ever completed. It represents the most comprehensive visual summary of global meteorological science at the close of the nineteenth century. The plates cover isotherms, isobars, winds, cloud cover, sunshine, rainfall, storm tracks, and anomalous weather patterns across the world, Europe, North America, India, Australia, and other regions rendered in Bartholomew's characteristically precise and beautiful chromolithography.
