Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - The prerequisite to investigating the underlying causes behind mass extinction is a profound understanding of the evolutionary history of both living and dead species. It is especially important to appreciate the significance of such studies in ex…tinct organisms; especially in organisms that were abundant in a certain geologic era, but have subsequently dwindled or become extinct. Such studies should help to accurately evaluate patterns of evolution in extinct species lineages and help predict the same in its modern analogs. The book includes cutting edge research in evolutionary biology that should serve as a starting point for conservation.

Aggiungi al carrelloLeather Bound. Condizione: Good. J. G. Bartholomew, A. J. Herbertson, and Alexander Buchan (editor). Atlas of Meteorology: A Series of Over Four Hundred Maps. Bartholomew's Physical Atlas Volume III. Westminster: Archibald Constable and Co., 1899. Prepared at the Edinburgh Geographical Institute under the patronage of the Royal…Geographical Society. Approximately 18 x 12 inches. 40 pages of text, xiv pages of appendices, plus 34 color plates containing over 400 maps. Color frontispiece map showing the worldwide distribution of meteorological stations. Original half black leather over blue cloth boards with gilt lettering and Edinburgh Geographical Institute device on front cover; "Vol. III" on spine. Former library copy (Michigan State Normal College, no. 19794) with bookplate on front pastedown and call number notation on free endpaper. Spine leather heavily worn with losses, cracking, and peeling; corners bumped with board showing through; cloth lightly rubbed and soiled. Hinges cracked but holding. Internally clean; plates bright and complete with vivid color printing throughout. Good to Very Good. This monumental atlas was the first volume actually published in Bartholomew's ambitious planned five-volume Physical Atlas series, of which only this meteorology volume and Volume V (Zoogeography) were ever completed. It represents the most comprehensive visual summary of global meteorological science at the close of the nineteenth century. The plates cover isotherms, isobars, winds, cloud cover, sunshine, rainfall, storm tracks, and anomalous weather patterns across the world, Europe, North America, India, Australia, and other regions rendered in Bartholomew's characteristically precise and beautiful chromolithography. A landmark of scientific cartography, issued under the patronage of the Royal Geographical Society. Satisfaction guaranteed or you can send it back.
