Condizione: new. Pages: 20 Language: Russian. Aleksandr Popov (born 1957) is a Saint-Petersburg composer, author of simphony creations, chamber instrumental and vocal music. In his creations Aleksandr Popov pays special attention to the relations between the human and time in different meanings of these words, one meaning being…direct experience of the march of time, its concentration and exhaustion, speeding up and slowing down, in other words, ultiimate relations of time and infinity, the other meaning being interrelation of the contemporary individual to the music and general cultural tradition. The selection of traditions addressed to by the composer is rather diversified, from European medieval times and Renaissance to meditative music of the East, to Armenian sacred music. Among the major creations of Popov are Requiem for lead singers, string company, prepared pianoforte and metronome, "Passioin" concert for waldhorns, organ and percussion, "Theory of affects" for chamber orchestra, Sinfonia da camera dedicated to the memory of Freskobaldi, Concert for flute with orchestra, Sinfonia Brevis for a grand orchestra, chamber sonata "w" for contratenor and octet based on the Slavic folklore text about the Judgement Day, "Utopia", concert for the violin and company. A. Popov is the winner of the "The International Tribune of the Composers" award (Paris, 1995), author of music to silent movies, such as "The Earth" (directed by Aleksandr Dovzhenko) and "Johan" (directed by Moris Stiller), composed at request from the German ZDF/ARTE channel, and to movies directed by Viktor Kosakovskiy. Eight hokku (from the Japanese classic poetry) for soprano, pianoforte and bells have been created in1981, and have been initially performed by soprano Tatyana Melentyeva and pianist Oleg Malov on the "Music spring in Sanit-Petersburg" music festival on April 21, 1992. Thereafter the cycle has been performed repeatedly, by Nelly Li, Elena Igotti (Antonenko), to name a few. Fragments of this creation have been included in the soudtrack to the Viktor Kosakovskiy's movie "Tishe" (2003). 9790660005804.

Condizione: new. Pages: 16 Language: Russian, English. Alexander Georgiyevich Popov (born in 1957) is the Petersburgian composer, author of symphonic compositions, chamber-instrumental and vocal music. Alexander Popov tries to solve the problem of relations between the Human Being and the Time in different aspects of this word's… meaning, i. e. the course of time and its perception, concentration and rarefaction, accelerations and stops. Thus all these relations grow at last to the contiguity between the Time and the Eternity on the one hand and between the Human Being and cultural heritage (including musical one) nowadays. The composer resorts to various cultural traditions, e. g. the European Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Oriental Nirvana music and ecclesiastic Armenian music. Among Popov's most significant works there are the Requiem for soloists, old instruments' ensemble, prepared piano and metronome, "Theory of Affects" for chamber orchestra, "Sinfonia da camera" to Frescobaldi's memory, Sinfonia Brevis for full symphony orchestra, Chamber cantata "W" for contra tenor and octet to the folk Slavonic texts about the Doomsday. Popov is the laureate of the "International Tribune of Composers" (Paris, 1995). Among his works there are the silent film "Earth" (produced by Alexander Dovzhenko), which the composer wrote music to and "Johan" (produced by Moris Stiller), ordered by the German TV programme ZDF/ARTE. Prelude and Fugue (double one with mutual exposition) refers to the 1980ies, having been dedicated to the memory of the composer Iosif Yakovlevich Pustylnik, Alexander Popov's first teacher of composition and polyphony. Tatiana Voronina was the first to have performed it. 9790660003381.

The Postlude for viola and piano was composed by Alexander Popov in 1993. The author marks the incompatibility between the timbre spheres of the strings and keyed instruments. The viola and the piano seem to exist in dissimilar sounding strata therefore the composer manifests it through the discrepancy of performing styles (the author's directions for sound making should be treated most attentively). These spaces get conjugated in the final movement (from the time the pianist stops usual keyboard playing). Popov resorts to the toy barrel organ. The premiere took place on November 15, 1993 at the Petersburgian Composers' House (viola - Mikhail Anikeyev, piano - Alexander Popov himself). Subsequently the piece was not once performed in Russia and abroad. 9790660048306.

Condizione: new. Pages: 28 Language: Russian, English. The piece "Moira" appeared in 1995. The Greek word "Moira" itself means "lot, destiny, fate", which every person is given right at the moment of coming into being. The goddess of inevitability is called Anagke. Plato indentifies her as the goddess of night. Anagke doesn' t s…top twirling her spindle, which axis coincides with the Universe's one. Her daughters are inexorable Moiras. They exist for to determine ? man's fate. Their dwelling is at the Olympus mount. ???? of them penetrate into Anagke's behests, some are left completely in the dark. Moira Cloto spins the thread ??????? 1??, deciding its length. When the thread is tom, the existence extinguishes. Moira Lachesis throws blindly the lots for men. No person has the power to change the predestination of moiras, for the third moira Athropos puts down her sisters' oracles to the fatal scroll, making it inescapable (N. ?un. "Myths and Legends of the Ancient Greece", 1987. ? 22-23). The composition, inspired by this enthrilling myth, abounds with all kinds of sonoristic piano effects, interlaced with triangles and bells. Spatial recalls pierce this strictly organized polyphonic structure depicting the dramaturgic programme. Every part corresponds to separate personage. Their names are signed inside the text. The whole composition resembles the unrestricted triple fugue, accounted with combined and divided exposition. Three themes are expounded simultaneously in its middle section. This Fugue vanishes ? the eternity. It was on November 19, 1955 at the Petersburg festival "Sound Ways", when the "Moiras" premiere took place. Subsequently the composition has been performed by the author himself so as by the pianist Olga Skorbyashchenskaya. 9785061577685.

Paperback. Condizione: New. «This book elaborates a structure for the general family of utopian genres with marvelous clarity, and with it established, Popov can pursue all kinds of further insights about the relationships between these texts. As the world's situation becomes more desperate, and the need for a new political econ…omy more obvious, this complicated canon is becoming increasingly important: no longer just a minor literary genre, but rather a crucial aid to thinking about our social systems. The better we understand utopian narrative strategies, the more fully we can put them to use, so Popov's excellent study is timely and interesting.»(Kim Stanley Robinson, author of the Mars Trilogy and The Ministry for the Future)«Alexander Popov's Zone Theory deftly guides us through the thickets of utopian theory and shows us why we should care, with fresh and convincing readings of a variety of science fictional texts. The writers explored here range from the usual suspects-Le Guin, Delany, Kim Stanley Robinson-to some not usually classed as utopian or dystopian, such as John Crowley and Brooke Bolander. Popov builds on the work of Tom Moylan and Fredric Jameson while adding important perspectives such as considering utopia as a hyperobject and using utopian theory to read the incongruous, unresolvable Zones of science fiction such as the Strugatskys' Roadside Picnic and Jeff VanderMeer's Southern Reach trilogy. I am happy to do as Popov suggests: to read utopias not only as ongoing processes rather than finished blueprints, as Moylan has taught us, but also to see them as a way of learning about the world. Utopia, says Popov, is "an apparatus for registering difference at the level of societal organization" and thus is always open to new discoveries and new antinomies: anti-utopias lead to anti-anti-utopias and so on without end.»(Brian Attebery, Emeritus Professor of English and Philosophy at Idaho State University, author of Stories about Stories: Fantasy and the Remaking of Myth)Zone Theory reinterprets utopia as an unceasing dialectic between totality and novelty which keeps on discovering new subjectivities and genres. Through close readings within a wide corpus of SF works, it meditates on utopian forms such as critical utopia, critical dystopia, heterotopia, atopia and ecotopia, ultimately tying them to the notion of anti-anti-utopia: a form of forms capacious enough to house a permanently open multiplicity of beings.

The writers explored here range from the usual suspectsLe Guin, Delany, Kim Stanley Robinsonto some not usually classed as utopian or dystopian, such as John Crowley and Brooke Bolander. Popov builds on the work of Tom Moylan and Fredric Jameson while adding important perspectives such as considering utopia as a hyperobject and using utopian theory to read the incongruous, unresolvable Zones of science fiction such as the Strugatskys Roadside Picnic and Jeff VanderMeers Southern Reach trilogy. I am happy to do as Popov suggests: to read utopias not only as ongoing processes rather than finished blueprints, as Moylan has taught us, but also to see them as a way of learning about the world. Utopia, says Popov, is "an apparatus for registering difference at the level of societal organization" and thus is always open to new discoveries and new antinomies: anti-utopias lead to anti-anti-utopias and so on without end.(Brian Attebery, Emeritus Professor of English and Philosophy at Idaho State University, author of Stories about Stories: Fantasy & the Remaking of Myth)Zone Theory reinterprets utopia as an unceasing dialectic between totality and novelty which keeps on discovering new subjectivities and genres. Zone Theory develops an approach to the study of utopia that expands its definition and its application in the field of science fiction studies Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.
