Gächter, in: Ossenagg 119). Gegenprinzip zur Gewaltästhetik ist 'Coolness', karikiert beispielsweise in 'Beavis and Butthead', die regelmäßig auf MTV ihre Kommentare abgegeben haben. Sie sind sinnbildlich für den abgestumpften Zuschauer: 'Monster ohne Empfindungen und ohne Motivationen[.].' (Ossenagg 119). Ihr Lachen scheint gegen alles zu immunisieren und 'Erschreckend ist, wie ähnlich sie uns manchmal sind [.].'(Ossenagg 119).Auch Benny, Protagonist in Michael Hanekes Film 'Benny's Video', zeigt keinerlei Emotionen und scheint komplett betäubt und berauscht von der Flut der furchtbaren Bilder, die tagtäglich auf ihn einprasselt. Durch die Alltäglichkeit verlieren die furchtbaren Bilder jedoch an Wirkung und führen zur Abstumpfung - Gewalt in den Medien ist somit Normalität. Wie Ossenagg sagt: 'Die Wahrnehmung selbst ist zum Schlachtfeld geworden.' (Ossenagg 119). Haneke kritisiert in seinem Film 'Benny's Video' die Unmündigkeit des Zuschauers, und appelliert an eine bewusstere Wahrnehmung über den reinen Konsum hinaus.Der Film 'Benny's Video' (1994) von Michael Haneke ist, neben 'Der Siebte Kontinent' und '71 Fragmente einer Chronologie des Zufalls', der zweite Teil einer Trilogie namens 'Emotionale Vergletscherung'. Der Name ist Programm, das Hauptthema die emotionale Abstumpfung und Desensibilisierung durch Reizüberflutung ausgelöst durch die Medien, die allgegenwärtig unsere Wahrnehmung beeinflussen. Hanekes These lautet also, dass die Wahrnehmungsflut zur Wahrnehmungsabstumpfung führt (vgl. Ossenagg 120).Darauf versucht Haneke seine Zuschauer aufmerksam zu machen. WieOssenagg formuliert sei es Hanekes Ziel '[.]den Bildern die Kraft ihres Verstörungspotentials wiederzugeben, sie wahrnehmbar zu machen.'(Ossenagg 121). Der Film 'Benny's Video' ist dem entsprechend ein Film über Wahrnehmung in einer medial vermittelten Welt und diesbezüglich selbstreflexiv. Ziel des Films ist es '[.] - das Sehen selbst ins Zentrum [zu] rücken. Selbstreflexiv sind insofern nicht nur Filme, die qua sujet als Selbstbespiegelung erscheinen, sondern die sich der Bilderproduktion überhaupt widmen und die fragen: Was ist ein Bild, wie strukturiert sich Wahrnehmung ' (Reinecke 9).
