In Russland gilt dies als offizieller Beginn des militärisch-topographischen Dienstes des Staate…s. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt verfügte der russische militärische und topographische Dienst über eine kleine, aber sehr kompetente Anzahl von adeligen Offiziersrekruten, die vor dem französischen revolutionären 'Terror' von 1793 geflohen waren. Die größte Rolle spielte in der Folgezeit Oberst Dupen de Montesson, der seine eigenen Anweisungen für militärische Vermessungen auf der Grundlage der von den königlichen französischen Ingenieur-Geographen verwendeten Anweisungen zusammengestellt und ins Russische übersetzt hatte.

In Russia questo è considerato l'inizio ufficiale del servizio topografico militare dello Stato. A quel punto il s…ervizio militare e topografico russo si avvaleva di un numero ridotto, ma molto competente, di ufficiali-aristocratici reclutati, rifugiati dal 'Terrore' rivoluzionario francese del 1793, tra i quali il ruolo più importante fu svolto in seguito dal colonnello Dupen de Montesson, che aveva compilato e tradotto in russo le proprie istruzioni sui rilevamenti militari, basate su quelle utilizzate dagli ingegneri-geografi reali francesi.
