A visually striking late-1920s popular song sheet with elegant Art Deco-inflected cover illustration by Barbelle, one of the most recognizable commercial illustrators of American sheet music during the interwar period. The vivid blue-and-cream design, featuring a fashionable flapper figure with feather fan, captures the sophisticated nightclub aesthetic that defined Tin Pan Alley marketing in the late 1920s. The music includes ukulele chord arrangements reflecting the instrument's enormous popularity in American homes during the decade. The inset publicity portrait identifies vaudeville and radio performer Jack Ryan as a featured interpreter of the song. Rear cover advertisements include contemporary Waterson hits such as 'To-Night You Belong To Me' and 'That Night in Araby,' providing additional period context for collectors of Tin Pan Alley ephemera. Condition: Very Good. Covers remain bright and attractive with moderate edge wear, light creasing, and a small area of loss/chipping at the lower front cover margin. Interior pages are clean and complete with strong paper quality and only light handling wear. Fold remains secure and intact. Rear cover clean with mild toning and edge wear. An appealing and display-worthy Jazz Age sheet music example with especially desirable Barbelle cover art. Barbelle was the professional name of illustrator Albert Barbelle (1887-1951), one of the premier American commercial artists of the Tin Pan Alley era. Born in Fall River, Massachusetts, Barbelle produced hundreds of iconic sheet music covers during the 1910s-1930s for major New York music publishers, helping define the visual identity of Jazz Age popular music. His elegant depictions of fashionable women, dancers, and theatrical performers blended Art Deco styling with romantic commercial illustration, and his work remains highly collectible among enthusiasts of American popular culture and graphic design history. Alfred Bryan (1871 - 1958) was a Canadian lyricist known for his contributions to popular music during the early 20th century, particularly in the ragtime and Tin Pan Alley eras. He collaborated with many well-known composers, such as Fred Fisher, with whom he co-wrote songs like "Come, Josephine in My Flying Machine" and "Peg O' My Heart." His lyrics were central to the success of several vaudeville and Broadway hits, earning him recognition as one of the prominent lyricists of his time. Little is known about the composer, H. Blanke-Belcher, other than his collaboration with Bryan on this song and in a few other Tin Pan Alley songs. [Verse I] Come, Lady June, Let us spoon, There's a ring around the moon, dear, Mister Peek-a-boo moon, dear, And he is winking, blinking, Let us linger longer lou. He's not the one, only one Has a ring around him, Baby, It reminds me that maybe, I've a golden ring for you [Chorus] My Lady June dear, my heart is all in tune, dear, There's a ring around the moon, dear, And it means that Mister Coon, lady June, Neath the moon have a wedding soon, Then I will put a ring around you, You'll be happy that I found you with a ring around the moon. A note about the cover art : Some of the most creative and eye-catching cover art of the ragtime-era were done by one of the prolific, but elusive, Starmer Brothers. Their work was of consistently high quality and they were turning out nearly a quarter of all large format covers from the late 1890s to around 1919. The identity of the artists was unknown until an invoice was discovered with a printed heading describing "Starmer" as artist and medical draughtsman. Not much else is known about the Starmer family.
