An den Chirurgen und Krebsforscher Leopold Schönbauer: "Lassen Sie mich Ihnen im Namen der Akademie das Bedauern darüber aussprechen, dass wir nicht die Freude hatten, Sie anlässlich der oesterreichisch-schweizerischen medizinischen Tagung in Basel begrüssen zu dürfen. Aber ich hoffe, dass es uns vergönnt sein wird, Si…e recht bald wieder einmal in der Schweiz zu sehen [.]". - Gigon beschäftigte sich u. a. eingehend mit Ernährungs- und Stoffwechselproblemen und wurde mit seinen Untersuchungen über "Die Kost des Arbeiters" (1914) "zu einem der Initiatoren der Sportmedizin" (DBE). Seit 1925 redigierte er die "Schweizerische Medizinische Wochenschrift", gehörte zu den Begründern der Schweizerischen Gesellschaft für innere Medizin, der Schweizerischen Akademie für medizinische Wissenschaften und initiierte das Schweizerische Tropeninstitut; auch gründete er die Internationale Gesellschaft für Innere Medizin, deren erster Präsident er war. - Leopold Schönbauer (1888-1963) war Begründer der Neurochirurgie in Österreich und errichtete zusammen mit Karl Honey und Julius Tandler die erste Krebsberatungsstelle in Wien; von 1945 bis 61 Direktor des Allgemeinen Krankenhauses und provisorischer Leiter des Instituts für Geschichte der Medizin - dessen "Beiträge" er ab 1948 herausgab -, war Schönbauer zusammen mit dem Psychiater und Neurologen Hans Hoff und dem Internisten Karl Fellinger an den Planungen zum Neubau des Allgemeinen Krankenhauses beteiligt. - Auf Briefpapier mit gedr. Briefopf der Schweizerischen Akademie der Wissenschaften; im linken Rand gelocht (keine Textberührung).
