Paperback. Condizione: New. Maria Lai (Ulassai, September 27, 1919 - Cardedu, April 16, 2013) is without doubt one of the leading figures in the history of contemporary Italian art. Not only on account of the content of her works, but also thanks to the diversity of her artistic approach, ranging as it does across many media - public art, embroidery, weaving, sculpture, drawing, and writing: all are grist for her poetics. The book is published to coincide with the exhibition at the MAXXI Museum in Rome, which is presenting to the general public over one hundred works by the Sardinian artist, from the early 1960s to her very last works, and explores the various themes dear to the artist with the contributions of experts in their fields: the locations, the creation, and publication of art books, her public art events and her relationship with the written word and her own writing. Her entire oeuvre is distinguished by its powerful visual impact, revealing a 'way of doing art' that is nothing other than an instrument of thought. The book's structure reflects the exhibition's own sections, arranged by theme, whose titles are paradigmatic of Lai's oeuvre as a whole: Essere è tessere. Giocare e raccontare; Disseminare e condividere; Il viaggiatore astrale. Immaginare l'altrove; L'arte ci prende per mano. Incontrare e partecipare. Published to accompany an exhibition at the MAXXI Museum, Rome, 19 June 2019-12 January 2020.Text in English and Italian.…

Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. Contemporary Indian artists are reinterpreting traditional craft techniques, breathing new life into age-old practices. This exhibition and accompanying book show how contemporary artists are reinventing craft techniques, exploring identity and cultural history. Embroidery, a skill passed down through generations, is central to this exploration. Traditionally practiced by women, it's now embraced by both genders. The exhibition highlights the work of Madhvi and Manu Parekh, who draw inspiration from India's rich spiritual and artistic traditions. Their works, ranging from paintings to sculptures, reflect the interplay between the real and the imaginary. The Chanakya School of Craft works with these artists to reinterpret their work through embroidery. This fusion of art and craft challenges traditional boundaries and creates a dialogue between past and present. AUTHORS: Madhvi Parekh (b. 1942) is a self-taught artist from India known for her folk-inspired paintings. Her work draws on childhood memories, mythology and women's craft traditions. She explores themes of human experience, the divine feminine and the interplay between reality and the surreal. Parekh has exhibited internationally and received numerous awards, including a fellowship from the Indian Ministry of Culture and a Whirlpool Women's Achievement Award. Manu Parekh (b. 1939) a leading Indian artist, draws inspiration from Paul Klee, Tagore and the folk art of India. Rooted in the tangible and sensual, his work celebrates the beauty of embroidery and traditional craftsmanship. Recognised with prestigious awards, Parekh's art is a fusion of modernism and Indian heritage. Chanakya School of Craft, a unique women-only education facility in India, is dedicated to preserving India's rich handcraft heritage. Founded in 2016 by Chanakya International, a global manufacturing house, the school empowers women through multi-dimensional learning in arts and crafts. By training over 1000 women, the school fosters a community of skilled, independent individuals who contribute to the global fashion industry and ensure the legacy of Indian hand embroidery lives on. SELLING POINTS: . A Dialogue Between Past and Present: The exhibition fosters a dialogue between past and present, bridging the gap between traditional and contemporary art practices . Fusion of Art and Craft: The exhibition highlights the fusion of art and craft, blurring the lines between the two disciplines and creating visually stunning works . Empowering Women Artisans: Showcase the work of talented women artisans who are revitalising traditional crafts and challenging gender norms . Brossura. Condizione: new. A cura di Lonardelli L. e Pietromarchi B. Traduzione di Hill S. e Mansbridge I. Testo Italiano e Inglese. Milano, 2019; br., pp. 232, ill. col., cm 16x25. I Telai. I Libri cuciti. I ricami. Le sculture. I tappeti. Libro.…
