Prima edizione
First printing of the trade edition (per publisher's number line upon copyright page). 111 pages. Hardcover: H 21cm x L 20.75cm. Dust jacket lightly rubbed; slight bumping at edges; slender indentation at rear panel's lower left with light impression into underlying rear board. Paper boards. Interior pages are bright and clean. Binding is firm. Else a near fine copy in a very good+ dust jacket. Features 79 b/w photographs (including frontispiece) of Mississippi cemeteries taken by Eudora Welty in the 1930s and 1940s. From the publisher's catalogue: "Her camera eye focused on distinctive funerary emblems, statuary, storied urns, and appealing folklife qualities expressed in the gravestones. Just as many pieces of Welty's fiction feature lyrical descriptions of cemeteries and graves . . . so too do these photographs taken in the cool, sequestered churchyards and graveyards of Jackson, Port Gibson, Churchill, Rodney, Utica, Crystal Springs, Vicksburg, Rocky Springs, and sites near the old Natchez Trace. [The photographs] not only document her rambles but also accent the images of regional cemeteries that appear in her stories and novels. This is her unique eyeview of the southern graveyard and of its unusual artworks that arrested her attention . . ." Also includes an introductory essay titled AN ABUNDANCE OF ANGELS by Elizabeth Spencer with a prefatory five page essay/interview by Hunter Cole titled EUDORA AMONG HER PHOTOGRAPHS in which Welty shares her impressions and memories of the book's haunting images. University Press of Mississippi also issued a slipcased edition limited to 150 copies along with this trade edition and both share the same ISBN which causes some confusion. Description copyright David Hallinan, Bookseller. ISBN 1578062357.

Condizione: New. ________________'This anthology will help turn your intellectual understanding of oppression into an emotional one' - New Statesman'Thanks for being who you are and for giving us such exposure to wonderful people. Palestine is proud of you' - Suad Amiry________________The Palestine Festival of Literature was established in 2008. Bringing together writers from all corners of the globe, it aims to help Palestinians break the cultural siege imposed by the Israeli military occupation, to strengthen their artistic links with the rest of the world, and to reaffirm, in the words of Edward Said, 'the power of culture over the culture of power'.Celebrating the tenth anniversary of PalFest, This Is Not a Border is a collection of essays, poems and stories from some of the world's most distinguished artists, responding to their experiences at this unique festival. Both heartbreaking and hopeful, their gathered work is a testament to the power of literature to promote solidarity and courage in the most desperate of situations.Contributors: Susan Abulhawa, Suad Amiry, Victoria Brittain, Jehan Bseiso, Teju Cole, Molly Crabapple, Selma Dabbagh, Mahmoud Darwish, Najwan Darwish, Geoff Dyer, Yasmin El-Rifae, Adam Foulds, Ru Freeman, Omar Robert Hamilton, Suheir Hammad, Nathalie Handal, Mohammed Hanif, Jeremy Harding, Rachel Holmes, John Horner, Remi Kanazi, Brigid Keenan, Mercedes Kemp, Omar El-Khairy, Nancy Kricorian, Sabrina Mahfouz, Jamal Mahjoub, Henning Mankell, Claire Messud, China Miéville, Pankaj Mishra, Deborah Moggach, Muiz, Maath Musleh, Michael Palin, Ed Pavlic, Atef Abu Saif, Kamila Shamsie, Raja Shehadeh, Gillian Slovo, Ahdaf Soueif, Linda Spalding, Will Sutcliffe, Alice WalkerWith messages from China Achebe, Michael Ondaatje and J. M. Coetzee________________'Every literary act, whether it is a great epic poem or an honest piece of journalism or a simple nonsense tale for children is a blow against the forces of stupidity and ignorance and darkness . The Palestine Festival of Literature exists to do just that - and I salute it for its work. Not only this year but for as long as it is necessary' - Philip Pullman.

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. 1st Edition. ESSEX COUNTY MA PURITAN PATHS FROM NAUMKEAG TO PISCATAGUA THE DODGES 1963 SIGNED. My antiquarian wanderings, as some may have realized, took me to Essex County and the Cape Ann area and that s where many of these books I am currently listing came from. Here s another from the lot and a rare one at that! Please find: Puritan Paths from Naumkeag to Piscatagua An Excursion from Rum Corner to Trundle Bed Lane by the Dodges (as it says on the dust jacket). It is inscribed by the Authors: Lawrence Dodge and Alice Cole Dodge on the frontispiece bearing their photo. The book is bound in forest green cloth with gilt titles on the cover and spine and protected by a printed paper dust jacket. It was published by the Newburyport Press dated 1963 and the First Edition with the same date on title and copyright pages. Condition: This book is in very good condition. There is some minor damage to the dust jacket including a small chip out of the front cover and a few other tiny tears. The hard covers are clean, bright and unbumped but the gilt titles are a bit tarnished. Inside the only mark I found is the Authors inscription; the interior pages are clean and bright throughout. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder. Signed by Author.
