The monitoring revealed heterogeneous response of different persons to identical radiation doses received, indicating the importance of individual sensitivity of exposed persons. Exposure to a chemical mutagen was studied in a mountainous region of Georgia where the atmosphere was contaminated with arsenic. The health of children from this region was investigated. A significant delay in physical development and an increased incidence of several diseases were found. The association with the mutagenic effects of arsenic was confirmed by cytogenetic studies and a parallel finding of increased arsenic levels in the blood, urine and hair of those examined. 52 pp. Englisch.
