Famed Detective Nick Harris' copy with his ownership signature in pencil on the front fly and a presentation Inscription to Harris from the subject of the book, Thomas E. Nicholas B. Harris,1882-1943, investigative reporter turned police detective, is considered a legend within the private investigation world. Originally a reporter for the LA Times he was asked to join the Los Angeles County Police Department by the then captain, A.J. Bradish. In 1906 he founded Nick Harris Detectives followed shortly thereafter by the Nick Harris Professional Detective School. His exploits were so popular that from 1934 to 1940 a radio program produced stories based on his cases sometimes referred to as *Nick Harris Detective* or *Why Crime Doesn't Pay*, which was as popular as *Sherlock Holmes* at the time.
