The author was a Viennese modernist writer who aimed, per the introduction, to widen the horizon of human sympathy and understanding. His brief essays are accompanied by drawings by the presenter, Alexander King, and with colorful King paintings at frontis and on slipcase, as well as King's introduction. --- In pale yellow marble-look paper-covered boards backed in brown cloth, with gilt-stamped spine titling and on black spine block. Content presented on buff-colored leaves. Volume housed in black paper-covered slipcase with King's painting to one panel, titling and sketch in gilt to another. --- With some dulling to spine gilding, inked numeral to rear paste-down, prior owner's sticker to p.97 and a partially erased front free endpaper gift inscription, else a well-preserved, tightly-bound copy. Slipcase with some sunning and rubbing, but remains structurally sound.
