It is possible that Hill temporarily participated with a militia unit but the most plausible scenario is that he simply treated ill and injured soldiers as Carrollton was in proximity to Alabama civil war activity in Tuscaloosa and Greensboro as well as being reasonably close to the hospital town of Columbus, Mississippi where thousands of Union and Confederate wounded were transported after the Battle of Shiloh.
