The front cover is surrounded by a gold rectangle around the border. There is one spot on the cover where a small sticker has been removed about .5 inches by .75 inches which is slightly darkened. The top edges are gold. The other page edges are lightly soiled. There are 19 letters and 19 iillustrations all on coated paper. The previous owner's name is written in ink on the end page. T. De Thulstrup (illustratore).

Farquhar served as assistant editor of National Magazine, and frequently published in the Saturday Evening Post and Her Washington Experiences initially appeared in a magazine, then in book form. It was written based on Farquhar's experiences while living in the Capital, and… was a picture of the complexity of the political and social workings of those who worked in the government, including Theodore Roosevelt, William McKinley, and others. Thure de Thulstrup was an American illustrator with contributions for numerous magazines, including three decades of work for Harper's Weekly, and was praised by one of his publishers, Louis Prang, as "the foremost military artist in America." Original brown gilt cloth with gilt top foreedge and tissue interleavings to plates. A clean, bright, unmarked copy.
