Daraufhin folgt der familiäre Rückzug ins Private. In Voyage to Sea wird ein geographischer und kultureller Aspekt der Seefahrt in NZ gezeigt. Es ist eine Erinnerung der Autorin an den Mann, der ihr das Bücherschreiben, Lesen, Sammeln, Tauschen, Schenken und Verkaufen näher gebracht hat, als eine liebliche Hausfrauenbeschäftigung von gelehrten Akademikern.
