Quarter-blue over blue cloth, white decoration on front cover, NF copy, w/ two taped-in signed cards from the author to "Pat," most likely noted Los Angeles architectural historian Pat Adler, who wrote "The Bunker Hill Story." First edition, presentation copy, probably to "Pat" Adler of this wonderful homage to the carrier pigeon mail service maintained by the Zahn Brothers between Catalina Island and Bunker Hill, Los Angeles charging from .50¢ to $ 1.50 for 25 words. Featuring an introduction by the beloved book illustrator, historian, and muralist, Leo Politi, this delightful historical essay captures a lost era in LA history. The first ALS note from Twohey Hager (1916-1997) on a notecard with seagull on the front mentions "No, this is NOT a Sea Gull maskerading [sic] as a Pigeon. Hope you will find pleasure in having my story of Avalon and Bunker Hill." The TLS at rear also featuring a Sea Gull motif dated July 30, 1980, where she writes about enjoying a reheated meal from Pat, as well as her eye operation, discovery of high blood pressure, and forthcoming visit to Mexico City. Sadly she suffered a devastating stroke in 1989, just 4 years after this publication, and never her completed her book on the Ostrich Farms of Los Angeles.
