This is the fold-out map from Théodore-Augustin Mann's "Abrégé de l'histoire ecclésiastique, civile et naturelle de la ville de Bruxelles, et de ses environs; avec la description de ce qui s'y trouve de plus remarquable." (Bruxelles, Lemaire, 1785). (Translated title: "Abridged ecclesiastical, civil, and natural history of the city of Brussels and its surroundings: with a description of its most remarkable features."] The 1785 date is significant as it captures Brussels just before the Brabant Revolution and the subsequent French occupation (1795). Maps from this nature are prized by historians for showing the city's fortifications and street layouts before major 19th-century industrial redevelopments.
