Hardback. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good Plus. Second UK Edition. 1946. Second UK edition. [iv], 373pp. Anton Roothaert (1896-1967 ) was a Dutch lawyer and writer . He is best known for the novel 'Doctor Vlimmen', translated into English under the title 'Dutch Vet', which was made into a film by Guido Pieters in 1978. The story takes place in the Dutch province of Noord-Brabant in the crisis years 1930-1940. At that time, Noord-Brabant was relatively heavily Roman Catholic and the protagonist runs against arrogant high persons from the Church, who pride themselves on their position and power. When Vlimmen is suspected of impregnating his maid, the relationship between him and the Church becomes very precarious. The book is bound in the original brown cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with bumping to the spine ends and fading around the top rear spine corner. The contents are tight and clean with a name and date (1946) written on the front fixed endpaper and another name and date (1952) written on the front free endpaper. The unclipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with some soiling and staining and the spine is faded. Small pieces are missing from the corners and bottom of the spine and about 1/4" is missing from the top corners of the spine. There are tears of up to about 1/2" around the top rear spine corner and bottom spine edge and a tear of about 1/2" on the rear spine edge. These tears have been repaired on the reverse with tape.…
