Der "Kommunitarismus", eine sozialphilosophische Bewegung ganz eigener Art, darf gegenwärtig als einer der Stimmführer in jener Debatte gelten, der es um Diagnose und Therapie der vielfältigen Krisenphänomene in den sozialen und politischen Befindlichkeiten unserer westlichen Gemeinwesen zu tun ist. Er hat seinen Ausgang in den USA genommen, aber inzwischen den Atlantik in Richtung Europa überquert und beeinflusst hier wie dort neben sozialwissenschaftlichen Diskussionen auch die praktische Politik. Die Autoren versuchen mit ihrer Schrift, eben diesen "Kommunitarismus", ein vielfach verwinkeltes Theorie(n)gebäude, durch seine Reduktion auf Grundstrukturen für solche Leser aufzuschlüsseln, die nicht zur Expertenzunft gehà ren, und richten sich vor allem auch an jene, die in der politischen Bildungsarbeit tätig sind. Vorrangig geht es deshalb um die Frage, inwieweit der präsentierten Sozialphilosophie Relevanz für die Belange eines schulischen Auftrags zugeschrieben werden kann, der sich im historisch-politischen Kontext unseres Landes primär dem Ziel der "Demokratieerziehung" verschreiben muss. Zum einen wollen die Verfasser also Grundannahmen und -aussagen des "Kommunitarismus" präsentieren und untersuchen dabei sein Menschenbild, sein Gesellschaftsmodell und seine politischen Ordnungsvorstellungen. Zum anderen stellen sie politisch-pädagogische Ãberlegungen zur Frage der Integration des "Kommunitarismus" in den organisatorischen und unterrichtlichen Bereich der Sozialisationsagentur "Schule" an und bieten in Textauswahl und kommentierter Bibliographie Handreichungen für jene politischen Bildner, denen der "Kommunitarismus" nach der Lektüre als Ergänzung "liberaler" Grundsätze im demokratietheoretischen und -praktischen Kontext unterrichtlicher Bemühungen geeignet erscheinen will.
