Olive green wrappers with black lettering and Carl Hertzog's printer's mark in silver on cover. Yapped fore-edge. Near fine condition with a bit of creasi…ng to yapped edge and a hint of soiling. Staple binding is tight. Interior is clean aside from a small smudge on the Cisneros drawing. Eight unnumbered pages plus tissue guards. Carl Hertzog (1902-1984) was a prolific and award-winning typographer, book designer, and publisher. This keepsake features two short essays: "So I Came West by the Spirit" by Hertzog and "Perfection Is No Trifle" by J. Evetts Haley. The essays are accompanied by two full-page illustrations: a portrait of Hertzog in 1946 by Tom Lea and "The Square Dancers" by Jose Cisneros. ; B&W Illustrations; 4to 11" - 13" tall; Signed by Illustrator. First edition. Beautiful signed lithograph from El Paso artist, José Cisneros from hisRiders of the Spanish Borderlandsseries. Accompanying sheet is inscribed "for our good friends Charlotte and Jack" inJosé's hand, from him and his wife, Vicenta. Rittenhouse was a bookseller and founder of the Stagecoach press in Albuquerque, a…nd for whose publications Cisneros did several illustrations. This uncommon publication was perhaps issued as a Christmas greeting in 1972. OCLC locates two holdings. 31x23cm, [2] leaves. Full color lithograph signed by Cisneros and accompanied by a nicely printed biography of the artist by Evan Haywood Antone. The biography sheet is additionally signed and inscribed by Vicenta and José to Charlotte and Jack [Rittenhouse]. Light bumping to corners else fine.
