Schrödter's notable theological a…nd exegetical work, containing lectures and exegetical studies on the Bible, reviewing and expanding on Wittenberg theologian Johan Müller's (1648-1696) last work "Acerra Biblica," acerra referring to a small box holding incense, in this case spiritual messages, designed by Müller, an orthodox Lutheran theologian, to be used in sermons and religious education. 2. Critical view of Jewish customs, beliefs and traditions by Christiani, a convert from Judaism to Christianity. Born in 1647 in Prostitz, Moravia, into a Jewish family Christiani served as cantor in Bruchsal in his youth. In 1674 he converted to Christianity and moved to Leipzig where he held the chair for Semitic studies at the University. Shortly before 1700 he returned to his birthplace and to Judaism. The plates introduce Jewish culture, practice and customs in daily life and the holidays. 3. Antonio Margaritha (1492-1542) was the son of the Regensburg Rabbi Shmuel Margaliot. This anti-Semitic work by the convert Margaritha was first published in Augsburg in 1530, including a translation of a Jewish prayer book for a non-Jewish readership. "Der Gantze Judische Glaube" claims to expose the true face of Judaism, mocks Jewish customs and makes serious accusations against the Jews. Margaritha warns his Christian readers against being in contact and trading with Jews, cautions them not to consult with Jewish physicians and portrays a negative picture of the Jewish Sabbath and the custom of using a "Sabbath Gentile". One of the worst allegations targets the political loyalty of the Jews, who are portrayed as treacherous subjects and supporters of enemy countries, headed by the Ottoman Empire. This work deeply affected Martin Luther, who was inspired by it to write his anti-Semitic book "On the Jews and Their Lies"." (Gross Family Collection) Text in German, some Hebrew, Gothic script. Binding with some rubbing and light staining with cord at tail of spine pulling loose but intact. Small library sticker at bottom of inside front cover and inked note, inlcuding "Werningerode Waisenhaus," suggesting it to be library note. Two small stamps on recto of frontispiece. With few small stains in block, not affecting text. Block lightly age-toned. Signed.
