Antoon Erftemeijer De hemelvaart van Frans Hals Anekdotes over Hollandse kunstenaars uit de Gouden Eeuw Van kunsthistoricus Antoon Erftemeijer verscheen in 2000 de vuistdikke bundel De aap van Rembrandt (uitverkocht). De auteur koos hieruit de leukste verhalen over kunstenaars uit de Gouden Eeuw…en het impressionisme, en voegde er enkele nieuwe aan toe. De hemelvaart van Frans Hals dankt zijn titel aan het verhaal dat Hals voor het slapen gaan placht te bidden: ?Lieve Heer, haal my vroeg in uwen hoogen hemel!? Zijn leerlingen vroegen zich af of hij dit meende en namen de proef op de som. Ze boorden vier gaten in het plafond en lieten daardoorheen touwen neer, die ze aan het bed vastbonden. Toen Hals, na kroegbezoek, zijn gebed had uitgesproken, trokken ze hem plotseling met bed en al de lucht in, waarop de schilder geschokt uitriep: ?Zoo haastig niet, Lieve Heer, zoo haastig niet!? De nieuwe bril van Monet is terug te voeren op de volgende anekdote: de impressionisten spraken van ?bouguereaut?? wanneer een schilderij volgens hen te gladjes was uitgewerkt. Bouguereau was de ster van de offici?le Salon-tentoonstellingen, waarvan hij de impressionisten wilde uitsluiten. Toen de ?vaag? schilderende Monet een bril kocht om zijn bijziendheid te corrigeren, wierp hij hem even later op de vloer met de uitroep: ?Mijn God, ik zie als Bouguereau!?
