Conclusion. Appendices. Bibliography. For understanding of a culture as universal experience we must have more and more details about the regional cultural manifestations. Hence for understanding the culture of a nation the study of regional history becomes important. In fact the history of a nation is like a bouquet constituted by the regional cultural flowers. As every flower is important in making up of the bouquet every region becomes equally important for making of the total history of a particular nation. The present book aims at focusing the socio economic conditions of Maharashtra a state of Indian union which has evolved its distinct culture i.e. the Marathi culture. The evolution of this Marathi or Maharashtri culture is a long drawn process which seems to have begun during the time of the Satavahanas. The present study aims at studying a phase of this process from 1100 to 1600 A.D. which was a period of transition from ancient to medieval. This study is based primarily on the inscriptional data from this region including Sanskrit Marathi Kannada Arabic and Persian inscriptions as well as the contemporary Marathi literature. Various aspects of socio economic life such as village community and urban development caste groups and untouchability religious scenario agriculture industries trade and commerce etc. are considered. 360 pp.
