Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book is a unique first-hand account of an ancient world many believed had been lost forever. The author reconstructs the events of an extraordinary diplomatic mission from the young king Ptolemy II Philadelphus of Egypt to the court of Judea. The author, a court official, was tasked with bringing seventy-two Jewish elders back to Egypt to translate their holy scriptures into Greek. The journey was arduous, but the authorâs narrative brings to life the sights and sounds of third-century Alexandria and the intrigue of an ancient court. The author's account is far more than a travelogue. He explores the complex relationship between the Greek and Jewish worlds, and the process of translation which laid the foundations for centuries of debate about the Bible. This book is a unique snapshot of a moment of great cultural and religious exchange, and provides invaluable insights into the Hellenistic era. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Fraying to spine ends. Pages tanned. Bookseller's tiny stamp to back endpaper. Faint crack to inner hinge. ; Preface in Latin; text in Greek. The so-called Letter of Aristeas or Letter to Philocrates is a Hellenistic work of the 2nd century BCE, one of the Pseudepigrapha. Josephus who paraphrases about two-fifths of the letter, ascribes it to Aristeas and written to Philocrates, describing the Greek translation of the Hebrew Law by seventy-two interpreters sent into Egypt from Jerusalem at the request of the librarian of Alexandria, resulting in the Septuagint translation. Though some have argued that its story of the creation of the Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible is fictitious, it is the earliest text to mention the Library of Alexandria. ; Bibliotheca Scriptorum Graecorum Et Romanorum Teubneriana TEUBNER; 229 pages.

Teubneriana, Leipzig 1900) und Thackeray (in: Swete, Introduction to the Old Testament in Greek, Cambridge 1900) berücksichtigt. 126 Seiten, Leinen (Alpha-Omega.
