A l'écrivain et libraire Pierre Béarn (1902-2004). Intéressante lettre montrant les démarches de Béarn pour obtenir un prix de l'Académie française. Il n'a pu aller à l'Académie depuis 6 semaines…à cause de sa santé : « Je sais seulement que Bourbon-Busset m'avait dit qu'il proposerait Jean Grosjean pour le Grand Prix de Poésie. Mais nul ne m'a encore parlé du Grand Prix de Littérature, qui n'est certes pas moins important, et que l'ensemble de votre oeuvre, votre revue, votre activité au service des Lettres, vous autorisent bien à revendiquer ». Grosjean eut bien le prix de poésie et Michel Mohrt eut celui de littérature. [365].

Il écrit au journaliste André Calas : « J'ai lu attentivement vos deux articles, tous deux sympathiques par leur chaleur, mais qui permettent mal d'émettre un « jugement » sur vos qualités…de critique ». Il sera à Comoedia le mardi suivant et lui proposé de l'y retrouver. Le journal Comoedia a vécu plusieurs fois entre 1907 et 1944. Il renaquit en juin 1941 et Arland dirigea la section littéraire.

J'avais espéré pourtant [.] Si, pour la Promenade, on choisit les voyages de Montesquieu, je m'amuserai volontiers à en faire la choix [.] Je verrais volontiers une réédition de la correspondance de Racine, qui est belle, et une réédition de celle de la Fontaine [.] Je vous signale encore [.] la Peste à Londres, qui est une admirable chose de D. de Foe, et qui n'existe plus en France. Vous ai-je parlé d'une choix de cartes de Diderot [.] et des beaux essais de Marivaux [.]" (99, Rue Anatole-France, Châtenay-Malabry, 5. III. 1933). - An das Pariser Verlagshaus Éditions Stock mit einer Entschuldigung für einen Brief an Chardonne, den er voll Entmutigung und Enttäuschung über die 8 bis 10 Monate in Anspruch nehmende Broschur seiner "Anthologie" sowie den Mangel an Beiträgen für seine literarische Sammlung "A la promenade" und mit dem Gefühl geschrieben habe, der Verlag sei vom eigenen Erfolg etwas überfordert, jedoch ohne Zweifel, dass ihm dort stets Freundschaft zuteil werden solle: "Je suis désolé que ma lettre à Chardonne ait pu causer cette émotion. Il est vrai que j'étais un peu découragé en l'écrivant, on m'avait dit que le brochage de l'anthologie pouvait à lui seul demander 8 ou 10 mois. D'autre part je ne voyais rien venir pour la Promenade. J'ai pensé que la maison stock était un peu débordée par son succès. Mais je n'ai jamais douté de l'amitié que l'on peut m'y porter, et qui m'est très chère [.]" (Brinville par Ponthierry, 30. Arland évoque ses écrits en cours avec Thiébaut. "Je ne vous enverrai rien en ce mo…ment, car je suis tout à un roman. Mais quand il sera terminé, ou je songerai à une nouvelle, ou tout simplement je vous le communiquerai [.]". "[.] Je travaille en ce moment à un roman, que je me promets de vous montrer quand il sera achevé. Les seules pages achevées que j'aie en ce moment, c'est un court récit, assez en dehors des Âmes en peine [qu'il publia en 1927] Mais vous jugerez : je vous l'envoie [.]".Il s'agit peut-être de L'Ordre, son roman suivant, qu'il publia en 1929, et qui lui valu le prix Goncourt.
