Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. First Limited Edition. First limited edition bound in sky-blue cloth with gilt lettering on the front board and spine. Light discoloration to the lower corners of both boards, with slight foxing to the top edge of the text block. A pea-sized spot of residue appears on the front pastedown and front free endpaper. Illustrated throughout the 386 pages with black-and-white photographs. Maps printed on the front and rear pastedowns include Warrenton Fox Hunt country and two additional area and regional maps. In an unclipped original dust jacket showing light wear at the corners and spine ends. This biography of Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Winmill and their family of Warrenton, Virginia, is perhaps typical of many American families of its period, the 91 years from 1884 to 1975. For over half a century, Bobby and Viola Winmill actively participated in the leading sporting and social life of their times. He, born and bred on a farm in Warrenton, Virginia, rose from a poor boy to become the founder of the New York Stockbrokers Guild Winmill & Co at 23, and to sponsor schools and clubs, play polo, and own racehorses. She, from her earliest years devoted to horses and riding, became "The First Lady of Foxhunting", as well as being prominent in driving coaches, in breeding dogs, and in collecting carriages. Both travelled widely from their homes in New York and Warrenton. Contemporary developments and world events are referred to so that the reader can follow the changing pattern of their lives ? greater than in any similar period of man's existence. A must for anyone interested in early foxhunting history in the Virginia Piedmont. We gift wrap every book at no charge. Additional images available, just ask. Offered by a five-star, full-time professional bookseller and proud member of the Virginia Antiquarian Booksellers Association. Satisfaction guarenteed. …
