Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a selection of eclogues, or short poems, by the Italian author Faustus Andrelinus. A humanist scholar and prolific author of the late 15th and early 16th centuries, Andrelinus wrote these witty and erudite poems in Latin. Like the eclogues of the Roman poet Virgil, his eclogues are pastoral poems, set in idealized rural landscapes and featuring shepherds as their protagonists. However, Andrelinus used this traditional form to address current events and contemporary figures, satirizing enemies and praising patrons. The poems incorporate many literary and mythological allusions and demonstrate the author's mastery of the Latin language and verse forms. In their exploration of such themes as love, loss, ambition, and patronage, the eclogues offer a glimpse into the literary, social, and political world of Renaissance Europe. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
