Un volume in-16° (10 x 13, 8 cm), reliure cuir marron clair à coins (reliure moderne), dos lisse avec mentions (auteur et titre) en lettres dorées. La couverture initiale (1er et 2ème plat) est conservée. Le premier plat est illustré d'un dessin en noir (le GEANT et sa nacelle sur le point de décoller). Le deuxième plat présente la collection des grands in-18° Jésus de l'éditeur DENTU. Ce petit ouvrage, qui compte 125 pages, relatele voyage d'un immense ballon, haut de 40 mètres et plein de 6000 mètres cube de gaz. Ce voyage, sur lequel NADAR comptait beaucoup sur le plan publicitaire (il envisageait d'organiser des voyages payants par la suite) tourna au cauchemar après un début tout à fait paisible. Il s'en fallut de peu pour que les 9 occupants de la nacelle (qui frotta le sol pendant de plusieurs heures) trouvent la mort. Plusieurs passagers furent en tout cas sérieusement blessés ou, comme NADAR, fortement commotionnés. Sa femme, elle, fut atteinte d'hémiplégie. Mais NADAR ne fut pas découragé pour autant et dans son livre "MEMOIRES DU GEANT" qu'il publia par la suite ( en 1864), il écrit: "La question de la navigation aérienne est la plus grande Question des siécles. Il est incontestable que par elle doit être réalisée la plus utile et la plus généreuse des évolutions humaines".Le texte de ce petit livre (LE VOYAGE DU GEANT) est extrêmement réaliste, nullement arrangé, nullement romancé; l'auteur avait été choisi pour tenir une sorte de journal de bord précis. Pour mesurer la témérité des organisateurs de ce voyage (dont NADAR en premier lieu), Il faut savoir qu'à cette époque aucun moyen technique sûr ne permettait de diriger un astronef, ce qui le rendait totalement incontrôlable, soumis aux moindres variations des nombreux courants athmosphériques. Notre exemplaire, malgré sa reliure moderne, mais avec sa ouverture initiale illustrée conservée , est une véritable rareté. Et en TRES BON ETAT.…
