Hardcover. Condizione: Fair-Good. No Jacket. Reprint. Book #1 in the original series of 24 novels penned by Burroughs between 1912 & 1966. Originally published by McClurg, this is the First Printing of the First A. L. Burt reprint edition (First, thus) from June 1914, preceding the later Grosset & Dunlap reprints by over a decade (please see our other Tarzan listings for some of those). In 401 pages + ads for other of this publisher's titles in rear, glossy frontispiece by Fred J. Arting. Small 8vo has black cloth-covered boards, lettered in gray/yellow to front & spine. Condition is Fair-Good: very clean with the occasional small spot or smudge. Sewn binding secure, but cracked in a few places, including title/copyright page with evidence of an old clear tap repair. Frontis itself is tearing upwards about 2" from bottom edge, but image is intact. Pages creamy white with modest tanning, completely unmarked save for former owner's name & address in lovely script to ffep. Significant rubbing & bumping to extremities, with fraying to corners & spine tips. No DJ (missing). Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have on hand. Same day shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Pacific time (Pacific); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day. Arting, Fred J. (illustratore).

Hardcover. Condizione: Near fine. First Edition. Octavo. 5.25 x 7.75 in. 198 pp. Illustrated with 15 black & white reproductions of drawings by Arting plus frontispiece. Near fine in original grey cloth, titled and decorated in purple and white. Very lightly soiled, with spine lettering slightly dulled. Binding square and tight, text clean and bright. From The North American Review, Volume 194 (1911): "Wallace.lived once in a serious-fronted house on the Rue des Saint Peres, but her bedroom window looked out on a garden.from here the author makes trips to Fontainebleau, describes the garden of Tante Placide's gentle heart, or discourses in the garden of Life. Tender, evanescent, slight, and gentle, these essays in and on a garden have a very special charm, and once again it is a pity that they are not better illustrated." A crisp copy.
