La forme mélodique soutient, en se posant en contraste, une esquisse de Paris comme témoin de la violence. Il a vraisemblablement été titré ainsi en référence à l'appartement qu'occupait alors les d'Astier. Dans « Athena », Éluard exhorte le peuple grec à défendre sa liberté.
